The area surrounding the baths will be asphalted and extra bathing sheds erected. Portion of the present sheds has been altered to provide a committee room. It is hoped to open the season during the middle of November. River Sweeper. Very slow progress is being made by the Drainage Board's river sweeper, which is now working just below Ford road. This is the widest part of the Heatlicote river, and a wall of mud has been pumped up in front of the sweeper. Methodist Church. The annual foreign mission meeting of the Opawa Methodist Church will be held next Wednesday, when the Rev. M. A. Rugby-Pratt, connexional secretary of the Methodist Church, will address members. Agricultural Experiments. In conjunction with the Christcirurch Technical College, the Government is carrying out experiments with regard to grasses and manures on three acres of land just off Opawa road, near Ensor's road, which the Technical College Board of Governors leased from the Canterbury College Board of Governors. This is one of a number of similar experiments. which are being carried out in various parts of New Zealand by the Government to ascertain what grasses are most suitable for the soil, and how they respond to the various manures. The ground is now being prepared, and the Government officers will sow the various seeds in the course of a few days. When completed the work will be thrown open to the public for inspection. It is felt that it will be of great interest to farmers, and to those boys of the Technical College who are taking an agricultural course.
