PRISONER SHOT.

In a desperate struggle with a constable Thomas Aiken, aged nineteen, one- ot two youths who escaped from Lithgow lock-up a week ago, was fntallv shot at Rooty Hill last night. Constable Bartktt discovered Aiken in a relative's house, and the fugitive made off into the scrub. The constable followed, but Aiken turned on his pursuer and gained a stranglehold on him. The constable then drew his revolver and fired, Aiken being mortally irounded in the chest.—Australian Press Association.
