The Outlook.
The annual Review of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Limited, which we shall notice more fully to-morrow, ends with «n earnest hope that what the farmers lose during the coming year in prices they will gain, wholly or in part, through increased production. They will certainly do so if they are not hampered by the Government, and by the anti-agrarians who are the driving force behind the Government. The Dominion is carrying at present more ewes and dairy cows than it has ever carried before, and, as there has been generally a mild winter, we ought to be able to add that it will export more wool and butter than it has ever exported before. But the Review is alarmed, as the whole farming community is, that at this particular time, when increased output is the only hope for continued prosperity, the most serious drive in recent times is being made against the farmer's security. It points out that if the Government's proposals are forced through they will not only check the gradual improvement farmers have been making in their position during the recent prosperous years, but will destroy their confidence and drive many of them into the ranks of the unemployed. It is a very serious matter indeed that a forecast which so many farmers wait eagerly for every year should have to end on this anxious note.
