BOULEVARD AND DRAINAGE BOARD.
TO THX BDITOB GT THE PBXSS. Bir,—l have been much amused at the report of the Drainage Board meeting of last week, where it was stated that the "boulevard was a scandalous waste of money." I always understood that people who lived in glass houses should tot throw stones, because it was Hot very many months ago that we were • treated to a "river-sweeper" operation whieh has been so successful in-beauti-fying our river that the rowing clubs are now to have a weir put in so as to give them enough water to stop their boats scraping on the increased mu4 flats. We were told by the Board that when the sweeper got further down the fiver the mud would be throwj* on thp * low-lying banks to raise same. Of course we believed this, and now that the Heatheote Biver is getting its turn, we are infonlied that this cannot be done unless special machinery is installed. Instead of vilifying the boulevard I would suggest to the Drainage Board Committee that they approach the Boulevard Committee and see if they could not find a place in the rifrer to moor the "sweeper" (it is too bulky to put in the Museum). Thanking you.— Yours, etc., ' MUDLABK. September 23rd, 1929.
