Escaping from the insanity ward of Manhattan Hospital, James Bennett, ironworker, climbed the East river bridge, reaching a narrow beam one hundred and thirty-five feet above the river. He resisted capture, and finally Patrolman Sneger, approaching from behind, grappled with him. The couple fought for ten minutes, the patrolman finally subduing Bennett with an arm lock and lowering him with a rope. Thousands watched the incident.— United Service.
