LATE MRS HERBERT.
CITY COUNCIL'S TRIBUTE. Reference to the death of Mrs Herbert was made at last night's meeting of the City Council. "I regret to have to report that Mrs H< P. Herbert passed away suddenly on Saturday evening," said the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer). "Mrs Herbert was a member of this Council during the years 1927-29. She also served on the Hospital Board and the Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fund Committee, and was the founder of the Social Welfare Guild." He moved: That this Council places on record its appreciation of the services rendered to the citizens of Christchurch by the late Mrs Annie Elizabeth Herbert and respectfully tenders to Mr Herbert its sincere sympathy in his bereavement. Cr. A. I. Fraer, in seconding the motion, paid a tribute to the noble work done by Mrs Herbert for the poor of the City. Crs. E. B. McGombs said that during the whole of the twenty years she Bad Known Mrs, Herbert, the latter ftau worked unselfishly on behalf of those in the City who needed assistance. . The motion was carried and, at the request of the Mayor, the Council and those in the pußlic gallery stood in silence as a mark of respect. A resolution of condolence with the relatives of the late Mrs A. E. Herbert was passed at last night's meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council.
