LEESTON TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Leeston Town Board was attended by Commissioners R. J. McConnell (chairman), EBohan, F. B. Clausen, J. H. Jones, S. Johnston, D. S. Millar, and W. Johnston. An application for permission to install a septic tank at the Catholic Presbytery haying been, approved by Dr. T. F. Telford, Medical Officer of Health, the Board decided to grant the permit. Dr. Telford said he would make it a condition that such sanitary fees as were demanded by the local authorities should be paid. Dr. Telford attended the meeting and remarked upon the improvements in the town from the health point of view. From the reports furnished regularly by Inspector Jones, he noted that the shops were being kept un to date. He was receiving no complaints from the public. Since the water supply had been taken from deep wells, the town had become free from enteric. Mr G. Rodgers wrote drawing attention to the condition of Market street, and also complained of the obstruction of the footpath by motor-cars. In view of the weather and the amount of traffic, members considered that there was little cause for complaint with regard to the street. Commissioner S. Johnston said he had complaints regarding the condition of Carston and Chervier streets. It was essential that a few loads of shingle should be placed on them before next winter. The Board decided to keep the work in view.
The Clerk reported that the trees in Memorial square had been pruned and the gardens attended. The re-sowing of the lawn had been commenced. Nc> reply had been received to the letter sent bv direction of the last meeting requesting that electricity should be installed at the Leeston railway station.
