OPAWA. Mr F. T. Xne P. and T. Department wrote regarding the telephone box at Ojiawa terminus, stating that the location oi the box had nothing to do wit a- the machine being out oi order. Bent coins were the troub.e, and do amount of observation would obviate this. it was considered that the booth was placed in the most convenient position. Messrs West and Pycroit were appointed to confer with the district telegraph engineer in the matter. It was reported that the branch post office for the district was to be opened at Wi.aon Bros.' grocery store as soon as the arrangements regarding a sound-proof box were finalised. The continuance of this o-iice depended on the support given by residents, and the hope was expressed that everything would be done to make it a success. It was decided to communicate with the Heathcoie County Council regarding additional lighting in Avoca Valley road, and to draw the Council's attention to the dangerous corner in Hill's road at the foot of the reservoir.
ST. ALBANS. Mr F. T. Prouting presided at the monthly meeting of the St. Albans Burgesses' Association held last evening. In reference to the Association's request for information regarding the widening of Edgeware road, the Town. Planning Committee wrote stating that wrfen the work was last considered great difficulty was experienced in obtaining dedication of the neces sary land, and the matter was not proceeded with. Further steps would be taken later to have the work carried out. The City Council notified that it had in hand certain sums of money which were originally borrowed to make advances to property owners to enable them to connect their properties with the sewer, and it was proposed to utilise some of this money for the necessary improvements in the Park. With regard to the request of the Asso elation that certain premises in Trafalgar street be condemned owing to their dilapidated condition, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, notified that he had inspected the premises, and found they were capable of being repaired so as to be fit for habitation. He had requested the City Council to cause a detailed inspection to be made, and the serving of the requisite notices on the owners to place the dwellings in a proper state of repair. Mr F. Prouting was appointed to represent the Association at the meeting in connexion with the promotion of a Health Week campaign in October. The chairman, secretary, and Messrs Dalley and Stanton were appointed to inspect and report on the drain at Hawkesbury avenue. It wag decided that the delegates to the TJ.B.A. should vote in favour of the unimproved value system of rating. It was decided to ask Mr H. M. Chrystall to address the Association at its next meeting on the tunnel road scheme. The resignation of Mr Forsey was accepted. It was decided to forward him a letter of appreciation for his services.
