RELIEF WORKS.

SCHEDULE AMENDED.

The City Engineer has prepared an amended schedule of works to be carried otft under the scheme for relief of unemployment. Renorting on this last evening, the Works Committee stated the total cost is £33.000, against £50.000 in the original schedule, the Council's share being £25,000, and the Government subsidy being estimated at £BOOO. In order to bring the estimated expenditure down to £33,000 a number of works contained in the original schedule have been deleted, and these are chieflv roads where sewei connexions have yet to be put in, and certain sections of the boulevard. Cr. D. G Sullivan said he thought they would get substantiallv more than 'tn £3OOO subsidy Possi&ly they wou'd get £IO.OOO or £10,500. They might be able to carry out all the items set out.
