ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS. When the change-over to the automatic system is made in the Christchurch Telephone Exchange, the event will probably be celebrated by a pnblie function. All pronouncements m regard to the progress of the work are now made by the Postmaster-General (Hon. Mr Donald). It is evident that the change-over is now not many months ahead, for the Public Works Department is calling for tenders, closing on August 6th, for certain internal alterations and additions which have been decided upon in view of the impending improvements to the service. The time allowed to the successful contractor will be six weelp.
