AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. The standard of amateur boxing has shown such a definite improvement daring the past few month* that several exciting boats should be staged at the Championship Tournament which will be held at the Caledonian Hall on Tuesday next. Excellent entries have been received in all the weights. The recent interprovincial tournament was so successful and enjoyable that boxing is now assured of enthusiastic support, and the local schools of boxing are reacting to the stimulus which the sport has been given. Amongst _ those who have entered for the championships are Colin Gardiner, the New Zealand light-heavy-weight who gavp such an attractive display in his bout last month; Twist Jaggers, who will be making his tirst appearance bere since his return from Ureymouth; George Wright, who staged such a thrilling bout with Hawes at the inter-pro-vincial tournament; W. Carey and T. Green, both really good amateurs, and Steve McKane, who is making sensational progress as a young boxer.
