OPAWA NOTES.

Personal. A presentation of a wireless set was ttade by members of the Opawa Methodist Church recently to Mrs E. H. Turner, Aynsley terrace, a,n old resident of the district, who is confined to Iter bod. The 21st anniversary of the Opawa Tenuis Club will be celebrated by a dance to bo held on Tuesday evening, when a presentation will be made to Mr P. Menzies, who has been president of the club during its 21 years' existence. A bridge evening, organised by the Opawa Girl Guides Committee, in aid of the guide funds, was held last night. There were ten tables, and the sum of £5 was rajsed. Boad Works. 'About three chains of Opawa road mear the bridge have been tar-sealed by City Council workmen. The channelling on the west side of Reeves road is nearing completion. Bad Footpath. At the monthly meeting of the Opawa Burgesses' Association, it was decided to write to the Heatheote County Council, drawing its attention to the unsatisfactory state of the footpath in Clarendon terrace, between the railway crossing and Opawa bridge. For many years this footpath has been in a bad state. It is narrow, and the hedge and grass from the side of the road encroach on it. The nearest street light does not throw any reflection on this footpath, which is difficult to traverse on a rainy evening. There is no channelling. Unfortunately there are no properties facing this stretch of footpath, which is used by people who live beyond the railway crossing, and who are therefore in the City boundary. This strip of ground requires channelling, the footpath widened, the hedge cut back, and a light erected, a tall order as the Heatheote Council is not drawing rates from the property adjoining the path.
