"THE SCREEN SPEAKS."
THEATRE ROYAL TALKIES. BOX PLANS OPEN TO-DAY. For all practical purposes silent films are now incapable of further technical improvement, but the cinema must advance and the gift of speech provides the logical impulse. Two years ago "Talkies" began, where toe silent drama halted; they face today a future as brilliant and as* pregnant with possibilities as that which lay ahead of the silent screen in 1900. Emphatically "Talkies" are not a passing phase; on the contrary they are an earnest of future progress towards a time wherein the screen will be a flawless reflection of reality, of life itself, in sound, colour, and apparent substance. The famous Western Electric system of sound reproduction, very costly certainly, but very wonderful in its results, will reproduce through its giant horn towers, now being assembled on the Theatre Royal stage, th© most remarkable programme of film voices and sound yet heard here. The absorbing mystery drama, "The Bellamy Trial," with its thrilling dialogue sequences in the great Courtroom scene, ia a triumph of realism. The box plans for the first week of the "1 alkie" season at the Theatre Royal open this morning at The Bristol.
