OBITUARY.

MR G. D. MACFARLAN*. Mr George Duncan Macfartane, *f "Everswood," Lower Riorarton, who died cm Saturday, came to New fcealand at a young man and was engaged for some years in the service df the Union Steam Ship Company, later on he started business in Christrhurch as a fruit merchant, and by his industry and integrity he soon gained the trust and confidence of all fruitgrowers and business men and built up a business which takes a foremost place amongst similar businesses in the iX>ininion. He was a member of the United Bowling dub and Hscley Got! Club, in both of which he took a very keen interest, and by his bright and genial manner and happy nature ••> deared himself to all the members a* both those clubs. In the beat sense of the word he was a true and generous sportsman. In private life he was • most generous and kind-hearted ntf/i and was greatly loved by all hj» friends. He leaves a widow, two tons —Messrs A. L. and H. W. Haefarlane, who were associated with him in his business—and one daughter—Miss Elsie Maefarlane—to mourn thefr loss.
