MISSIONARY WORK.

ARCHBISHOP'S APPEAL. In the course of a Whit Sunday address at the Cathedral last evening Archbishop Julius remarked that it was quite easy to work up sentiment about missionary work, but what was wanted was prayer, new recruits, and practical support. Church missionary .vork, he said, was a commission from God and the finest work a churchman in New Zealand could put his hand to. His Grace said that sometimes WhitSunday was oalled the birthday of the Church, but actually the Church was far older than the day of Pentecost. The Church was in existence when Christ came, but it was then only a shadow of what was to be. The new Christian Church disclosed a very close continuity in history and worship with the Church of the past. The new Church was a Church to preach the Gospel of Christ to Jew and Gentile alike all over the earth.
