RUGBY. ENGLISH TOUR OF 1930. THROW-LNTO-TOUCH RULE. (FEOil CCB OWJT CORKESrOKDENT.) LONDON, April 5. On the eve of the England-Scotland Kugby match in Edinburgh the International Board met to discuss various questions. Still another meeting was that of the selection committee for the Kugby Union tour in New Zealand and Australia in 1930. At this latter meeting the committee (Messrs J. Baxter, A. D. Stoop, J. Daniell, E. Gwyn Nicholls, and G. V. Stephenson) talked about various players who might be included in the touring team. It is understood that the members of the committee propose getting into early touch with players who may be likely candidates for the tour, and giving them ample notice of the call, that may come to them in the hope that they may thus •be able to make the necessary ararngements to get away. Among matters discussed by the International Board was the proposal to invite the South African Eugby Union to send a team to .our England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales in the season 1931-2. Mr Paul Koos, the captain of the South African touring team of 1906-7, was present by invitation, and put before .the Board the views held by the Dominions on the subject of their greater share in the government of the - game. Among the other matters which the Board discussed were the ever-present problem of getting the ball into the scrummage and the less usual one of the way to stand when the ball is to be thrown in from touch. In order to have a uniform rule it was decided that a player must have both feet in touch.

TO-DAY'S GAMES
MERIVALE V. LIN WOOD. The attraction at Lancaster .Park to-day is the Merivale v. Linwood game. The Merivale team played in great form against 'Varsity and executed many brilliant passing movements which were a delight to the onlookers. C. Oliver gave one of his to date, and was well up to All Black form. Linwood have a bright team, especially good in the forwards, and they may make a good stand against the Blues. 'Varsity are stall improving, but have a decided weakness just behind'"the scrum. W. E. Alexander comes in at first five-eighths, and it :s thought that 'if a strong- half could be unearthed the side would be hani to beat. they play' the Sydenham team on the South Kround. On the West ground, Christchurch meet West Old Boys. T. Mullan plays at half in the Christchurch team instead of K. Soanes, who is on the injured ist. ajFales and M. Meikle will be associated, with Mullan, while G. Scrimshaw will take Meikle's place in the three-quarter line. A good game in the forwards should be seen at the Show Grounds, where Albion meet Technical. On the No. 2 ground, Men vale meet North "Canterbury in the Senior B competition. SUMNER CLUB. President's 3 v, Sydenham, at Sumner. 2.45 p.m.—N. Bassett, M. Thompson, D, Shaw, L. Mansfield, D. Rutherford. W. Morton, E. Merritt, J. Turner, R. Hawker, D. Bowman, E, Stoneman, L. K. Jones, J. "Seniors (cars Waikari 12 o'clock) —Hunt, Hayward, Little. Pawsey. Sykes, Norton, Clent Low, Gorrie, Kellock, Inch. Prenderville,* Honeybone, Barker, Gardner. RUGBY LEAGUE. AX EVEN COMPETITION. Although Aldington have stolen a march on the other League Kugby teams, the second round will tell the tale, and four other teams with prospects will strive mightily to reduce the lead oI the Black and Whites. Manst, who meet Waimairi t».t headquarters to-day, are a game ahead of the - Papanui men in the table, but the latter have sensationally defeated Hornby and Hornby have a victory over Greens among their three wins, so on paper Waimairi should win. Can they ? The result may be in doubt to the last whistle. Sydenham should give Hornby mite a close struggle at Hornby, and may surprise tha Blacks.
