R Robinson, District Electrical Engineer at Mangahao, and -Mrs Robinson are spending a holiday-■ on • the "West Coast. . Miss Helen Rich, ivlit» has been attending tlie Nelson show, returned today to Cliristchurch. Mr L. Donnelly,, who has beep appointed to a position on the Government geological staff, leaves Westport for Murehison on January 2nd. Mr L. Blair, stationmaster-at K'iraara Junction,-and Mrs Blair, left this morning for Christchurcli and Tiraaru. Mr C. Watson is acting-stationmaster during Mr Biair's absence. Mr Alfred Soifert, of Pahnerston North, arrived from Nelson to-day, and is proceeding to Kotokino, south of Hari Hari, to report on the suitability of areas in that locality for flax-growing. The wedding of Miss Ruby. Amelia Mallinson, daughter .of the late Mr Geo. Mallinson, Koparaj.to Mr Robert Burn, look place at "Wellington yesterday. Dunne,' of Graniiy, was solemnised at Holy' Trinity Church yesterday by the Rev. W. Bell, vicar "of Cobden. . . . Croquet. r The Makura Croquet Club opened'it'sseason this: afternoon, when; there: was a large attendance. ■ The president, Mrs -W. Thomas, extended a welcome to the meinbera and visitors, and hit . the first ball. A putting competition was won by Mrs Allan: Smith. In the croquet competition Mesdamcs ' McQueen, Allan Smith, W. Tfiomas,/M. Fogarty, and Mirccr tied, and will play off next week. Afternoon tea was dispensed. | Claim and Counter-claim.' At the Magistrate's Court at Westport last evening Mrs McCulloiigh, of Seddonville, claimed from Dennis Laird £2B 2s 6d for board and lodging. Laird counter-claimed for. £2O, 3'Bs for' work done. The Magistral? gave '.judgment for plaintiff for £lB 17s 6d, and rejected tlie counter-claim.' . Light for Blackball. . The streets of Blackball ' were lit by electricity for tile first time last evening. :
