TEMUKA.

! THE WEATHER. r , . | A very welcome rain has been experienced, and the town and country have both benefited. There was a drizzle in the early part of Tuesday, but it was not' until late in the afternoon, wlren the wind veered round to the south that it looked as if it was going to rain in real earnest. As the evening advanced the rain became heavier, and by 9 o'clock it was raining heavily. The ground has benefited greatly and the cereal crops which were beginning to show signs of languishing, are now recovering. The same applies to pastures, which were assuming a burnt-up appearance. The amount of rain which fell as recorded by Mr W. Goodman was 72 points, up to 9 a.m. yesterday, which added to the 10 points showing on the gauge the previous day, makes 82 points for the week. Lambing Returns. On the whole lambing returns have been very satisfactory this year, but the mortality rate has, if anything, been a little higher than usual, doubtless due to the spells of bad weather experienced during the lambing period. I There have been some deaths, especially among the best lambs, but although I some farmers have suffered more losses . than previously, it is generally considered that this trouble had not been so serious as it was last year.
