FIRE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The Christchurch Fire Board met last night. Present: Messrs J. E. Cameron (chairman), A. Williams, K. W. Bobinson, G. D. Mcllwraith, and H. E. Eusbridge. Apologies were received from Messrs J. The secretary (Mr C. J. Treleaven) reported that the Board's balance-sheet had been received from the Audit Department without any tags. „ The superintendent (Mr C. C. . Warner) reported that between October Sth to November 6th there were 33 cbllb; 1G ; were for actual fires, 3 for hedge and grass fires, 1 chimney fire, 8 were malicious false alarms, 3 wero false alarms from various causes;- 1 waa a call to Cashmere and 1 to Hillmortcn. Estimated fire loss, £1850; insurances on buildings and contents, £45,550, and estimated value of property affected, £5590. The Government Inspector of Fire Brigades (Mr T. Hugo) officially inspected the "brigade on October 29th, and expressed himself" well satisfied with the smart turnout and the general appearance of the men. The following tenders were received for solid tvres for certain motors for delivery in May, 1929: Dnnlop Eubber Co. (N.Z.), Ltd , £llß 3s- Goodrich Tyres. Ltd., £ll9 14s; . Hayward Bros, and Co., Ltd., £127 18s 10d; Para Rubber Co., Ltd., £l3B 5s Bd. It was recommended that the lowest tender be accepted The 1000 ft rubber-lined hose and the ''Foamite" set and powder had arrived,' at id would be placed in commission in due jourfl®. The report was adopted, and, with referjnce to malicious false alarms, it was decided to instnict the euoerintendent to have alarm boxes watched, with the idea of catchinir persons giving malicious false alarms.
