LATE MR J. F. PEAKE.
A BIG FUNERAL,
Widely known and respected as was the late Mr J. F. Peak©, especially in sporting and commercial circles, it was only to. be expected that K there would be a large attendance at his funeral, which took at Bromley cemetery yesterday afternoon, from his late residence, May's road, St. Albans. The Rev. L. B. Neale conducted the burial service. The pall-bearers were Messrs D. Reese. J. S. Barrett, and W. H. Win-, sor (New Zealand Cricket Council), A. E. McPhail (Canterbury Rugby Union), A: L. Cropp (Christehurch Liedertafel), and'S. Langeveldt (Massey, Harris Co.).
b The chief mourners were MrF. T. /gndepson < Dunedin), brother-in-law, : and "the lace Mr Peake's son, Wilfred. The cortege grew appreciably larger j as the cemetery was reached, and the choir of the Liedertafel was present to [ pay a last tribute to their fellow-mem-oer by a rendering of "The Long Day f Closes." r Mr " Neale added his tribute. "I B esteemed him as a personal friend, " lie said. "There was not a man of the many 1 with whom he came in contact, on the j sporting field but who did not respect j him. •He always bore himself with 5 characteristic manliness, and it was no 2 mean service, he to the comi munity. He wasn't a religious pietist i —that doesn't count for a great deal - in modern life—but he showed qualities 1 which leave a mark on public life. This was the medium through which it was his ambition to serve. Last Sunday, the; night he died, he was to have come to my church, but he attended service in Heaven." ■ _ Those present included: —Messrs _ C. W. Hervey (Canterbury Acclimatisation Society), W. F.
