KENNEL CLUB.

_—« ANNUAL EXHIBITION, A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. Most people who go to the Metropolitan Show make a point of visiting the Canterbury Kennel Club's show, which is held on the Addington grounds in one of the buildings, and yesterday the dog community was thoroughly represented for the 23rd annual fixture. There was plenty of variety, from the sturdy British bulldogs, the lean greyhounds, the keen-eyed, sharp-eared Alsatians, and the intelligent collies, down to the "Poms," "Pekes," and the funny little mouselike Chihuahuas, who, with their large shiny black eyes, peered wistfully at the pas3ers-by, as if foeling heavily the respon' sibility of their unweildy name. Aristocrats all, with pedigrees almost as long as a show prise list, they were, indeed, a handsome collection. The entries totalled 202—26 fewer than last year's—but whereas last year's show had a slight advantage in numbers the quality this year was decidedly better. Irish setters and Soalyhams were the biggest sections,, and there were also ft good mony cocker* spaniels. Wire-haired fox terriers also showed a big increase in numbers, and. taken all round, they were a fine lot. There were also a couple of West Highland Whites-—a breed that has not been shown in Christchurch for many years. The red setters, too, were better than they have been for a long time. The exhibit of Sealyhams goeß to show how quickly the English fashions in does are followed by the Colonies. These, indeed, are one of the most popular breeds in England. There are still a number of sections in the Special prize list to be judged, and the champion dog is yet to be selected. Mr J. Linton was the judge of Working sheep dogs, and all other breeds were judged by Mr N. Wade, of Auckland, following is the prize list:— ALSATIANS, Dogs, open (4): H. Williams';!
