[Sir Walter Cockerline, the millionaire Hull shipowner, was charged with making false income tax returns involving £107.000. He was committed for trial despite the prosecutor's desire to withdraw the case on account of the precarious state of Sir Walter's health and the fact that he offered to pay a penalty of £300,000 in addition to the £107,000.]
