Bush fires are widespread and many homes are endangered. Women have been specially prominent in saving homesteads. Eight cottages were destroyed in the Mittagong district and parties totalling 300 fire fighters were engaged all night long in beating the flames off the town. A strong westerly gale broadcasted sparks everywhere, especially in the Blue Mountain district, where miles of the country were swept.The bush fireg are interrupting telegraphic communication with country districts.—Australian Press Association.
