WELCOME HOME SOCIAL.

REV. N. L. D. AND MRS WEBSTER. A welcome home social was tendered to the Ilev. N. L. D. Webster and Mrs Webster, who have returned from a trip abroad, at St. Andrew's schoolroom, last evening, where a large gathering assembled in honour of the guests. The Rev. W. Bower Black presided. There were also present the Rev. Mr and Mrs Gibb, and Mrs John Deans. Addresses of welcome were given by Mr J. Storry on behalf of the session, Mr Andrew Burns, on behalf of the Deacon's Court, and Mr J. Barnett, on behalf of the Young People's Guild. Reference was made by Mr Barnett to the excellent work accomplished by the Rev. Mr Gibb during the absence abroad of the Rev. Mr Webster, a farewell presentation to Mr and Mrs Gibb being made by Mr T. W. R. Hitt. In reply, Mr Webster gave several of his experiences abroad, and expressed sincere appreciation for the welcome extended to him and Mrs Webster.

During the evening items were contributed bv Misses Mabel Eaglesome and -C. Sinclair, Mr Alec. West, and Miss Margaret Willis.

HEAD-DRESS BALL. Owing to the kindhr interest and remarkable organising ability of Mis Algar Williams, and the hearty cooperation of her committee—Miss Boyle, Mrs Irving Carney, Mrs Frank Scott. Misses Adrienne Acland. Margaret Stevenson, Commander David Boyle, Messrs J. G. L. Vernon, and John Rhodes—the funds of St. Saviour's Orphanages should teneiit considerably by the very pleasant ball held last night in the Caledonian Hall. The effective decorations that nsia been used at the race ball again lent their colour and beauty to the Caledonian Hall, and spirited music was provided by NuttaPs Dixieland Orchestra. " . . All kinds of head-dress— picturesque fantastic, and grotesque, some made of feathers, some of straw, a few of lace, and many of paper—added an air ot gaiety and buoyancy that was irresistible. Variety was lent to the programme by the. introduction' of somo of tno dances popular before the days of jazz, and a group of pipers played for tne Highland schottische. . CHRISTCHURCH PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY CLUB. Members and friends of the Christchurch Practical Psychology Club held a very enjoyable musical, elocutionary, and social evening on Wednesday. Mr James Stout presided. Vocal items were contributed by Mrs Anne Harper, Miss G Anthony, and Mr Chve Hindle; elocutionary items by Mrs McLeod, Misses Naare Hooper, and Ida Cooper, and Mr Mark Rolls; a pianoforte duet bv Mrs Wisely and Miss Marjorie Alexnnder and pianoforte solos by Miss M. tr stout L.A.B. A delightful short r.lav, entitled "At the Ribbon CotmL r " wa<= given by Misses Ida Cooper, F 'Forrester G. Tompkins, and W. The accompanists were Misses' Slack, Mr K.. Stout. Marjorie Alexander, and Muriel Johns. The of supper and the singmg of the National Anthem concluded a very pleasant evening.
