SNOW SHIELD.

WIN FOR COLLEGE.

Tie contest lor tha Snovr Challenge Shield, which is competed tot annually by twmi from Christ's College andßoys'uHigh School; took place yesterday afternoon, and resnlted in a win for College by the yarrow margin of eight points, * Both teams paraded at the Barracks, Col' lege under - Acting-Lieutenant Bean, and School under Actiag-kieuteaant Williams, and after being inspected by the-three umpires (Major D. E. Bremner, M.O„ Captain Bown, and Captain Propke, ail of the Staff Corps), marched to the shooting ground on Cashmere Estate, which had been' made *vaitobie for the purpose by Mr. Cracroft Wilson. v The marching of both /teams was exceptionally good, the hills being reached In an' hour (via Lincoln rood 'and Barrlngton street), but whon the sceneof action was reached both teams lost a good deal of time in establishing union with-the Scouts, who bad moved- on ahead and come in-contact with the "enemy"—ten metal platts wed at unspecified distances on the hillside. The shooting was, however, yery good onee it started, College accounting for all ita pldtes, and School, by the time College had finished, for all but; one. It, indeed, looked during the last burst, of fire as if both ■ides would ' 'down'' all the enemy simultan cously. which might perhaps have happened if the two last survivors of the School team had not been compelled, owing to the nature of the ground, to shoot standing. Fortunately for the Umpires, this result was avoided by the sound markmanship of the College aurvlvors. The Mark Sheet was as follows: — H.P.S. Ch. Col. 8.H.8. Shooting (10 points per _ n plate knocked over) 100 100 00 Appearance (clothing and arms) <0 89 8? Marching .. ~ 10 9- 8 Section leading (scouts, use of eover, fire orders, ranges judged, formations) .. 100, 75 80 . Discipline .. ... 26 24 '24 Ammunition returned (lpt. per 5 rounds ■ returned nnused) » v 13 Total „ 26p *252
