TRADE WITH GERMANY.

BRITISH FIRMS ACTIVE.

[TBB PBESS Special Service*]

AUCKLAND, November 6.

and Germany are again j commercially friendly and any bias •gainst . Germany in this respect by NewZealanders is -a' foolish bnei"' This! is the opinion of Mr F. A. Hellaby, 1 who has returned to Auckland from a business trip to the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, and the United States. Mr Hellaby was greatly impressed with his tour of Germany, which included Berlin, Hamburg, and Potsdam. "We arrived in Germany, after the first spurt of business since the stabilisation of the mark and there was a general feeling that there had been over-production," Mr Hellaby stated. "Germany ' was evidently feeling' the international competition, which with better methods, was coming from the direction of England. "As far as commerce is concerned, there is no disinclination on the part. of British business people to trade with Germany," said Mr Hellaby. "One 1 found that many houses in England doing international business were in Hourly telephonic communication with German houses. In discussing international affairs with many Germans whom I met, I gathered the impression that the average German has forgotten the war. The war has apparently been overshadowed by, the subsequent financial and social revolution which affected the nation so deeply." International business with Russia was now almost confined to Germany. He came across instances where English houses were doing business with Russia through German firms.' There was no doubt Russia did not like Great Britain.,
