The weather was muggy and threatening but the wicket good for the resumption of the match, England v. Victoria. Woodfull was unwell and Ryder acted as captain. Hendren made free with the bowling and scored 12 off one over by Ebeling. Fifty were added in 35 minutes. White was stolid and lasted lhr Bmin. He hit one four. Ironmonger secured two wickets with successive balls.

Hendren made his 100 th century in first-class cricket. He was smartly thrown out from cover by Scaife. His innings lasted 2hr 14min. He hit 11 fours'. Four wickets fell for the addition of 25 runs.

Light rain fell during the luncheon adjournment, and the wicket was covered. Sawdust was used on resumption. Chapman hit the bowling freely after lunch. With Larwood 50 runs were added in 18 minutes. The bowlers were hampered by the greasy ball. Four hundred came up in 6hrs 19min. Chapman scored 50 in 52 minutes. He gave a grand display during an innings that lasted for lhr*Bmin. He hit one six and six fours. His partnership with Larwood added 93 in 50 i nutes. Larwood also gave a nice display and scored 50 in lhr 2min, including a good leg hit for six off Hartkopf. Victoria's second innings commenced at 4.8 p.m. Hendry was missed first ball of the innings off Tate by the wicket-keeper, the ball going off the glove to Mead at first slip, who also dropped it.
