OVERSEAS TOUR.
FOR NEW ZEALAND BOYS. The Young Australia League, which was established at Perth 22 years ago for the purpose of enabling boys to learn something of their own country and also to go farther afield, has its representative in Christchurcb at present in the person of Mr John Tucker, who ia organising a group of {JO New Zealand boys to accompany a party of Australian boys on a tour of Canada and the United States.
The leader of the League is Mr J, J. Simons, a journalist, of Australia, and it was he who originally conceived the idea. Since its inception the League has grown steadily until it now possesses £BO,OOO worth of property. The organisation, in addition to providing travelling facilities for parties of boys, interests itself in radio and debating clubs, gymnastics, and bands. Already 8000 boys have partaken of the benefits provided by the League in the way of tours of America and Canada, and the forthcoming tour will be made by 120 young Australians and 30 New Zealanders. The latter will be a' distinct section, maintaining its own individuality. The cost of the tour to the parents is £195, exclusive of special clothing and pocket money, which brings the figure to £230. The boya selected from New Zealand will proceed to Sydney on December 18th, where they WilJ spend five days as the guests of the New South Wales division of the League, prior to embarking for San Francisco. The tour will last until June 17th, 1929, when the party will reach Auckland on the return journey. Applications to join the party may be made to Mr Tucker, the New Zealand representative, at the office of the Union Steam Ship Company, Wellington.
