The election of Germany's "Newspaper King," Herr Hugenberg, as President of the National People's Party in succession 'to Count Westart denotes the triumph of the extremist party. Herr Hugenberg owns scores of newspaper throughout Germany. He is a bitter opponent of the Republic, the policy of an understanding with France, the Locarno Agreement, and the Treaty of Versailles. He is also the man behind the Nationalists' Steel Helmet organisation, and is leader of the German Pascists. His election is certain to increase the tension in internal politics. • Tho ex-Chancellor, Dr. Marx, is resigning the chairmanship of the Centre Party in December for reasons _ of health.—Australian Press Association, United Service.
