100 GUINEAS.
CONTRIBUTION TO, LIFEBOAT ASSOCIATION. Tho sum of 100 guineas has been voted by the Sumner Borough Council to the Sumner Lifeboat Association. It was decided to make this donation at last night's meeting of the Borough Council when an appeal was received for funds. Cr. H. W. Harris said that tho Council should give all it could possibly afford. He noticed that other local bodies, some 100 miles away, had seen fit to contribute £lO. Cr. A. Holden moved that the sum of £25 be contributed. "I would like to see the mover alter it to 100 guineas," said Cr. T. Newburgh. "This is a thing that happens only once in many years." Cr. Holden: I would like to cto it, but it is ratepayers' money. Subsequently Cr. Holden withdrew his motion and Cr. Newburgh moved that the donation be 100 guineas. Cr. Harris seconded the motion which was carried.
