OTRANTO IN PORT.
BOWS BADLY DAMAGED.
RESULT OF THE COLLISION.
(cmzD PRSBB ASSOCIATION—BT ELSCIEIC TSLIGBAPH—COFTBIOBT.) LONDON, August 12. The Otranto's passengers were dining when the collision with the Japanese ship Kitamo Mara occurred. The contents of tables were thrown everywhere. A second impact occurred sh' rtly afterwards. Many rushed on deck and donned lifebelts. Though the extent of the damage was unknown there was no panic. The women were particularly calm.
The Otranto's bows suffered the worst damage. The vessel was stationary for half an hour while the damage waß being ascertained. Later she returned slowly to her A special train took her paßsengers to the Midlands and London.
The Beamen aboard the Kitamo Maru were asleep in their bunks. One sustained a fractured leg and spine. Pumping operations proceeded throughout the night to keep the Kitamo Maru afloat at the mouth of the Humber, and arrangements were made to tow tho vessel into Hull dock this evening. The extent of the damage is unknown.
No one on board the Otranto was hurt, but the severely injured sailor from the Japanese vessel was landed at Hull, to-day.—Australian Press Association.-
