ALFRED O'SHEA.
Fresh from triumphs in Australia, both oil the concert platform and in grand opera, with Dame Nellie Melba and Signorina Toti Dal Monte, Mr Alfred O'Sliea, the young Irish tenor, will make his first concert appearance in Christchurch, at the Municipal Concert Chamber, on Friday, Saturday, and Mcnday, August 17th, 18th, and 30th, supported by two other artists of international fame in Miss Claire Hartge, violinist, ana Mi An Kathleen Fitzgerald, pianist. Mr O'Shea, like Melba, is an Australian by birth, but cosmopolitan by nature. HQ studied and sang in France, Italy, and tiermany when in hia teens, but i' was London where he made his real debut in 1922, giving no fewer than four concerto in tha Queen's Hall, at which be created we greatest enthusiasm, and was acclaimed Dy the critics as the most promising of tne younger generation of tenor singers. Alir O'Shea'e voice, it is said, is one that the memory, and he is no leap succeesful in grand opera than ho is m the old■ melodies and folk songs. His records ar in all the homes of mu«:c-loving folk throughout New Zealand, and his admirers are legion. In addition to his musical genius, O'Shea is gifted with a handsome stage presence and a most ingratiating personality. His programme should be particularly pleasing, including as it does such gems as "Che Gelida Marina' (La Boheme , Puccini: "Berceuse" (with violin obbligato), Godard; "Ave Maria," Kahn; Desire, Chdman; "Life and .Death, Coler.dge-Tay lor- "Fairy Tales of Ireland," Coates; The Low Backed Car," "Macushla,' The Snowybreaeted Pearl," "The Last Rose of Summer."
