BOWLING.

CANTERBURY CENTRE. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre was held last ovenlng, w on Mr F. J. Good presided over a fair attendance. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. J). Colville; vice-president, Mr D. E. Wood; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. W. Wado; hon. auditor, Mr H. Kilncr; executive committee, Messrs Oakey and bmitiison; match committee, Messrs A. Dickson, H. Burson, and Yv". Raphael; solo selector, Mr W, Hefford; bowl-tester, Mr T. Marker. The retiring chairman thanked tho Centre' for its support during the past year, and paid a warm tribute to tho work of the various office-bearers. An enthusiastic vote o£ thanks was accorded to Mr Good for the manner in which lio fulfilled his office during tho year. Remits. A remit to tho Dominion Oouncil from the South Auckland Centre, that the hotel expenses of delegates to tho Council be paid, was opposed. Mr M. P. Barnett said that bowling was bordoring closely on professionalism in somo cases. The Auckland Centre had once susgostod that travelling toams should be paid £1 a day from the day they left home. They would have had to pay their board at home. In any evont, it was an undignified procedure. Other speakers supported this argument. It was decided to forward a remit that in future tournament rinks should be played in two games of 25 heads a day, and not throo games a day, as in tho past. One Bowl Teiter. A remit from Dunedin to the Dominion Bowling Council that a paid bowl tester be appointed to visit the Centres throughout New Zealand was strongly opposed. Mr H. Bursou moved that the Centre oppose the remit and he met with ready support. It was not possible, he contended, for one man to cover the whole country. Another speaker doubted if it were an economic proposition to pay travelling expenses for one bowl tester. Tho chairman (Mr Colville): We have already appointed our own bowl tester, and this remit' can do us no good. The secretary volunteered the information that the remit was being opposed throughout Now Zealand.
