BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RICCARTON. A meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council was held last night.. Present weret Mr H. llanhiro (Mayor), Ors. R. 6. Malcoimson, T. M. Ford, H. Gudsell, H. Telford, Xj. Ormandy, and It. H. Rankin. The sanitation contractor Wrote stating that he would accept half the usual sanitation fees for . those houses connected up with the sewer before October Ist. Those not connected up by that date would bo required to pay the full fee. The Council decided to support tho nomination of Mr W. R. Gahagan for the vacancy on the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors. Mr Gahagan is the retiring member. The recommendations of the Works Committee that all trees bo removed from the borough streets in cases where the .residents \yero agreeable, and that house refuse from the north-west area be collected on Wednesday mornings in future, were adopted. The Electricity Committee reported plans and specifications had been prepared for two sub-stations and for extensions to the office. Tenders had been called for and let; mid, the work of extending the office was proceeding. The committee recommended that an estimate be obtained for an alteration, to the Foster street sub-station, and that it bo a rocommendaiOn to the By-laws Committee immediately to rc-number the borough streets. The report. was adopted. Accounts amounting to £3403 -Is 3d were passed for payment.

NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council mot ! i last evening. The Mayor (Mr A. W. Owles) presided, and others present were: Crs. F. j D. Muirson, E. Smith, J. S. Scott. E. A. M. Leaver, T. Robins, A. E. Lawry. H. A. Glas- j son, R. Stokes, and G. W. Bishop. I The Mayor welcomed Cr. Leaver back to J his. seat on the Council, he having been elect- j ed unopposed. i The Christchurch City Council wrote stating that the Council would sit on Monday, August 6th, as a, licensing authority to consider further applications from the Christchnrch Tramway Board and the Inter-City Motor 00. for omnibus services to North Beach, via Wainoni. The letter was received and Cr. Muirson was, appointed to represent the Council at tha iorocaadines.
