WOMAN DROWNED.
INQUEST CONCLUDED. The inquest into the death of Eva Bvaithvraite Miles, a single woman, aged 44 years, was held yesterday afternoon before the Coroner (Mr E, D. Moslev). Miss Miles's body had been found floating in the .Avon river, New Brighton, on Sunday afternoon. William Miles, of 63 Bercsford street, New Brighton, stated that he was the father of Miss Miles, who had been living with her parents. She had been suffering from prolonged fits of mental depression. Witness saw her go into | her bedroom at 7.45 a.m. on Sunday. He t went in to see how she was, and discov--1 ered that she had climbed out the window and had disappeared. He telephoned a number of friends to see if she had qallird in, but they had not seen her. He then organised a search party, and informed the police that she Was missing. Dr. W. T. Glasgow stated that he had attended Miss Miles. He had seen her on Saturday morning, when she had spoken to him. He noticed that she was worrying over something, so he had spoken soothingly to her,, and had thought that she 'was better. He had. [ later seen the body, and in his opinion i death was due to drowning. Constable Henderson, of New Brighton, said that about noon on Sunday, William Miles had telephoned the police and reported that Miss Miles had been missing since aboujt 8 o 'clock that morning. He also informed witness that he had been searching for her all the morning. but had found no trace of her. He had given his daughter's description, which was sent to the Central Police station, and to all suburban stations. Aboul; 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon a Mr Bighton had called into the police station, and informed witness .. that there was a body floating in the river. The body was recovered from the water, where it had apparently been for some hours as it was then ri&id. The body' was Inter identified by William Miles as that of his daughter. The Coroner returned a verdict that Eva Braithwaite Miles died in the Avon river, New Brighton, on July 29th. Death was due to drowning, while in a state of unsound mind.
