MR SCOTT RETIRES.

THE ARBITRATION COURT. Representatives of the various interests connected with Arbitration Court proceedings in Giristchurch joined yesterday in paying tribute to the sterling qualities of Mr W. JScott, employers' representative on the Court, who is retiring shortly. Mr R. T. Bailey, officer in charge of the Government Labour Depart ment, said that, on looking round the room he found that he had known Mr Scott longer than any other representative present, and he had no hesitation in saying that he was richer in knowledge by that association. Mr Scott had always been willing to giw advice to those in difficulty, without impairing that judicial attitude so essential for one in his position. Mr W. Cecil Prime, representing the Canterbury Employers' Association, said that in his association with Mr Scott he had found him always anxious to consider every side of any case before the Court, and to consider it impartially. Mi F It. Cooke, on behalf of the Trades Hall secretaries, said they had known Mr Scott as a just representative'of the Court. Mr W. J. Hunter, representing the legal profession, also spoke in appreciation of Mr Scott's services tn the Arbitration Court. His Honour Mr Justice Frazer said that the Court would be very sorry to lose Mr Scott. If he did not say more now, it was because he would bid Mr Scott farewell at another function in Wellington. Mr Scott, in reply, spoke of hi» happy association with those with whom he had come into contact. He recalled that he had been connected with the Court ever since the Act of 1894 that caused its inception. He had been employers' representative since 1909.
