Smith and Mrs Smith, who have been for a motor trip to Dunedin and the Lakes district, have returned home. The Hon. Mr Hanan, M.LC., and .Mrs Hunan are joining the Niagara at Auckland, en route to Canada, the United States, and Great Britain, it is hoped also that there will be time for visits to France, Switzerland, and Denmark. Mr Hanan will be specially interested in studying the latest educational methods abroad. Miss Dennis is leaving for Wellington tomorrow night. Dr. and Mrs J. Ilcstcll Thomas (Latimer square) returned yesterday from a motor trip through Marlborough. Nelson, and the West- Coast. Miss Chrissie Beggs, late of Hanmer Springs, is leaving by the Niagara from Auckland on March 13th for an extended tour of Canada and tho United States.

CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS PARTY. A children's fancy dress party was lield in the Memorial Hall, Papanui, recently, when between seven and eight hundred parents and children were present. Most of the children were in fancy dress. The organisers were the fete committee set up to raise money to provide playground equip ment for the two Papanui parks. The arrangements were under the control of Mrs H. Kettle and Mr H. Eagleton, who provided the programme, and acted as M.C.'s. Other workers were Mrs H. R. Smith (lolly lady), Miss Maude Kettle (lolly maid). Miss Peters (pianist). Mr J. Hutchison (picture programme), Mr "Whitmore (ventriloquist), Mr and Mrs McKay (judges), and Mr and Mrs Boyce (judges' assis-. tants). COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. The coming of age of Miss Rema Woodham, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Woodham, of Linwood, was celebrated on Saturday evening, when about 100 guests assembled in the Hibernian Hall. A most enjoyable tinie was spent in dancing, interspersed with games and musical items. The hall and supper room were gaily decorated with coloured streamers and flowers. During supper, Mr P. Cohen announced the engagement of Miss llema Woodham to Mr William McDonald, and, in doing so, wished them a long and prosperous lite. Mr McDonald responded. Mr Ellis Weavers carried out the duties of M.C.

The hall was tastefully decorated, and its appearance reflected credit upon the organisers. Visitors were present from every part of the Peninsula, and all were unanimous in voting it a successful function. for splendid music arb due to Mrs W. Robinßon, and for extras to Miss H. Richfield (Robinson's Bay) and Miss Reynish (Pigeon Bay). The duties of the M.C.'s were carried out by Miss W. Robinson and Miss V. Harris, and Miss R. Holstein was doorkeeper. DIXIELAND. A very large and enthusiastic gathering was present at Dixieland on Saturday evening, when the usual weekly dance -was held. CANTERBURY JUSTICES' SOCIAL. The Canterbury' Justices of the Peace celebrated their first decade social in the Masonic Hall on Saturday night, thej-e being present a good attendance of members and lady friends.
