THE WEATHER
Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory. Christchurch, at 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on March 4th:
Forecast. An anti-cyclone is now centred east of the Chatham Islands, and a shallow depression over the Tasman Sea. Present indications are for northerly winds, backing to southerlies shortly in the south and later in other parts of the Dominion, becoming strong in Cook and Foveaux Straits, moderate to fresh elswhere; rough seas in Fouveaux Strait, and rising shortly from Cook Strait southwards, strong northwest to south-west winds and rather rough seas in the South Tasman Sea, elsewhere smooth to moderate seas; the weather fine and warm at first, but becoming unsettled, with some rain later and cooler temperatures.
