Divorces in N.S.W,
Sydney, January s.—There were over 1700 divorce petitions in New South Wales last year. Since the war the number of petitions has increased each year, and the time of two Judges has been almost continuously occupied in hearing petitions. At the busiest time three were required. Minting in Australia.
Canberra, January 0. —Since 1910, when minting operations were commenced, silver to the value of £6,750,000 has been issued by the Australian Mints. Profit made on minting coins was little more than £3,000,000. Last year nearly 12,000,000 coins, valued at £450,000, were issued. Opium Cultivation in India. Delhi, January 4.—The Government of India has appointed a Commission to consider the stopping of opium poppy cultivation in Indian States. Fossil Nautilus Found. Perth, January u.—Said to bo 5,000,000 or 6,000,000 years old, a fossil nautilus was found on a farm at Narriltup. It is a marine shellfish, representatives of which still exist in the sea. It has been placed in tho Perth Museum.
