SUCCESSFUL ASCENT

A party of Cliristchureh climbers comprising Messrs J. Struthers, H. 1. Sinclair, C. L. Eidgen, and D. ,5. Smith were successful in scaling Mi. Holleston on Wednesday. Leaving Jack's Hut on the Arthur's Pass road at 4 a.m., they halted on the Bealey Glacier two hours later and partook of breakfast. The summit of Little Rolleston was reached at 11.20 a.m. and of the main peak r.t noon. Two feet of snow on the mountain made climbing difficult and dangerous, and the many avalanches on the move provided additional thrills The weather wa3 perfect, but the heat of the sun on tlie snow was somewhat tryinc. The descent was commenced at 1.10 p.m. and Otira was reached six hours later.
