CHESS.
EXHIBITION TOURNEY.
As a finale to the New Zealand Chess Congress just concluded, enthusiasts of the game met in a friendly tournament at the Canterbury Chess Club's roorms last evening. The 1927-28 champion, Mr A. W. 0. Davies, gave an exhibition, keeping seven players engaged by moving on the different boardg in rotation. Messrs F. ICeliing and E. H. Severno, second and third men, respectively, in the championship, played an Interesting game in a different number of settings. Mr Davies came through the evening with five wins, a draw, and a loss. He won against Messrs W. H. Joyce, P. Woodfull, W. J. Fairburn, J. Maltoak, and T. L. Drummond, drew against Mr 1 S. Khonri, and lost against Mr F. Adair.
