OXFORD SPORTS.

AN EXCELLENT GATHERING. . The Oxford Sports Association's athletic meeting was held under favourable auspices. The day was fine, and there was a large attendance 'of the public, the gale takings amounting to A' 63 Cs 6d. Entries for the cycling events were good, but the woodchopping events were of outstanding popularity, tho entries being exceptionally large, there being fifteen competitors in the district maiden chop, eighteen in the standing chop (open), aeventeon in the champion chop of Canterbury, and twenty-one in the underhand chop, while there were eight teams for the double sawing. Tho champion chop was won by B. Garlick, who received the gold medal, which accompanied the prize-money at the hands of the president's daughter, Miss h. M. .McCounell. A large body of officials, under the presidency of Mr R, P. McConnell. and with 3lr T. Brown secretary, carried out the arrangements admirably, tho events being run expeditiously.
