A good "monkey story" is contained in a report from the Federated Malay States. The damage done by monkeys to mangrove seedlings is in part atoned tor by the destruction wrought by them among the crabs, which also damage seedlings. It is reported that it is a common sight to see a monkey hooking crabs out of their holes with its hands or angling for them with its tail, having caught a crab, the monkey takes it to the water's edge, breaks and washes it, and then eats it. On one occasion, on a rising! tide, he found a drowning monkey with its tail down a hole. The crab was a big one, and had caught the monkey.
