Anthony Shannon appeared charged with drunkcuHess for the fourth time in six months, and with a breach of his prohibition order. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on % the other. VAGRANCY. Annie Clements, aged 43, wa« charged with drunkenness, with a breach of her prohibition order, and with being an idle and disorder]? person. The Senior-Sergeant said the woman, in spite of measures taken to assist her, was leading a drunken and immoral life. "The only thin? to do with you is to put you away," fn id tho Magistrate, in sentencing accused to 11 days' imprisonment on the charge of drunkenness, and three months' imprisonment on the charge of being idle and disorderly. Albert Henry Gordon Gibb (Mr Hobbs) was charged with unlawfully assaulting George Ah Chang, and with wilfully damaging goods, the property of Chang Wong and Co. The Senior-Sergeant aaid that accused, a painter by occupation, entered the shop and I hurled two cucumbers at Chang, causing damage to his features. He also knocked I over certain vegetables and fruit display in j tho shop. Mr Hobbs said accused was returning from a party. He was drunk, and had only a hazy recollection of the episode. Gibb was fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment, on the first charge, and ordered to pay 8s damages on the other, in default 14 days' imprisonment. SPEEDING. ■William Barrett and Ernest D. Dark were charged with speeding on Ferry road. Traffic-Inspector Rennie said that the men were riding motorcycles at 40 miles per hour. Each was fined £2 and costs. CYCLING ON FOOTPATH. George Reed, for cycling on the footpath at New Brighton, was fined lOi and costs. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. Edward Wood (Mr Stacey) was eonTJeted and ordered to pay costs on a charge of negligent driving, his plea being that the sun was in his eyes, and he could not see a postal van with which he collided. (Before Mr H. P. Lewry, S.M.) MAINTENANCE OASES. H. Needham, for disobedience of a maintenance order, in which he was £6 17s 6d in arrears of payraont, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for three days, and withdrawn if the amount was paid in full. T. W. Wood, £2 5s in arrears in respect of n maintenance' order, was sentenced to, three months' imprisonment with hard' labour, the warrant to be suspended for seven days and withdrawn if the amount was paid in full. LICENSING DECISION. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., delivered hit de-' cision in the case in which William Henry Ward, licensee of the Zetland Hotel, and his son, Clarence Ward, were charged with breaches of the Licensing Act. William Ward was convicted on the charges of having his premises open after hours and selling contrary to the provisions of tho Licensing Act. A fine of £7 and costs was imposed. Clarence Ward was fined £3 and costs.
