ROWING NOTES.

By COXSWAIN. The Akaroa Regatta'will be held on Monday, January 2nd.- The programme is to be the same as last year, with the exception of one small amendment. The Union Club have chosen the following crews for their President's Cup race:—P. Rogers (stroke), P. Sierakowski (3), R. Layton (2), H. Thiele (bow); A. Rogers (stroke), 0. Anderson (3), C. Hamilton (2), J. O'Reilly (bow); W. Greenway (stroke), H. Booth (3), H. Logan (2), G. Greenway (bow); H. Bush (stroke), E. Weir (3), L. Bowden (2), A. McAuliffe (bow). .The race will be held on November 28th, and all crews are training hard. Bush's crew has been showing the best form, but Greenway will be hard to beat at the end of a mile.

The Avon Club have seven crows in hard, training for the Allard Fours, to be rowed" on November 16th. Barkle's crew is a strong favourite, as it is composed -of four regatta men, two being seniors, but bow is swinging out of the boat at times. Palmer has also a strong crew, but has not beon seen often on the river. Webb's crew appears to be fairly solid. Stroke does not get the length forward, and a rearrangement in positions might improve their chances. If Batchelor's crew had a bit more weight they would be a tough proposition, as they will probably be the fittest crew on the day. No. 3 in this boat is "cocking" badly. Ironside's crew lacks experience, and the No. 2 in this boat, a new man from Auckland, is evidently used to harbour rowing. The Canterbury Olnb have rowed off their President's Cup races, and a surprise was created by Styche's crew winning the final. The Racing Committee should note this crew contained throe maiden oarsmen—Styche, Day, and Coster. Boyd's craw, which, was composed of Boyd, Cowlishaw, Hill, and W. Brown, were favourites, as they had two seniors and a- junior in the boat, but they were easily beaten in the first heat. Cowlishaw and Hill again failed to last the distance, and it is hard to understand how these men find places in regatta crews.
