The combined State and Federal enquiry into the ferry disaster : opened before Mr Justice Campbell, but was adjourned until Wednesday next without hearing evidence to allow counsel for the different interested parties to prepare their cases. At the inquest on the ferry disaster, Dr. Palmer, Government Medical Officer, gave evidence to the effect that in his opinion drowning was the canse of almost every death. Ex-Detective Comyn, who was a passenger on another ferry, from which he witnessed the accident, gave evidence that when he first sighted the Greycliffe she was about four lengths ahead of the Tahiti and appeared to be bearing in towards the larger ship. The Greycliffe appeared to be drawn in towards the Tahiti, although the ferry had apparently not altered her course. He then heard one short blast from the Tahiti and the latter appeared to push the Greycliffe over, striking her twice, forward and amidships.
