Mr J A C. Bayne, Chief Inspector of Mine's, t at present in Christchurch. Mr D. Hebenton, Dominion organiser of the Reform Party, is visiting Christchurch. Messrs E. Griffiths (New Plymouth) and £ Finn (Auckland) are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr IS A. Templer, manager of the Bank of' New South Vales M«djto South, .has been transferred to Greymouth. . Mr Arthur Johnson arrived in Christchurch on Tuesday to represent the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the Royal bnow.
Guests at the United Service Hotel include: Messrs F. V. Sanderson (Wellington), J. Fraser (Oamaru), and. A. W*. Fraser (Hakataramea). Dr. R Jack; Professor of Physics at the University of Otago, passed through Christchurch yesterday on his way from Wellington to Duneain. Mr James Deans, who .has been on a visit to England and the Continent of Europe, returned to Christchurch on Tuesday. Mr W. S Pender, of Maitland, New South Wales, editor of the ''Australasian Beekeeper," will return to Christchurch from the South on Friday. Mr Leonard F. Round, who has been spending six months in Great Britain and on the Continent, returned to Christchurch yesterday.
Recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel include: Messrs J. W. Harding (Waipukurau\ J. Durham (Timaru), R. P. Withell (Wellington), and R. B.Tennont (Dunedin). Mr K. W. Gorringe, Government Instructor in Swine Husbandry, arrives from Wellington this morning, and attends the Progress League's meeting this evening in connexion with the pig industry. The Auckland Presbytery resolved yesterday to nominate as Moderatordesignate of the General Assembly the Rev. George Budd, Superintendent of Missions.
Mr J. E. StracKan, the president of the Canterbury Progress League, arrived back in Christchurch yesterday from a visit to Honolulu and America. He returned to his home at Rangiora.
Mr G. H, Barnett, the well-known Leeston pig-breeder, who won both the boar and sow championships in the Berkshire section at the Royal Show yesterday, is at present an inmate of a private hospital in Christchurch.
Mr J. Fraser, general manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, arrives from Wellington this morning to attend the Royal Show. He will be present at this evening's meeting, convened by the Progress League, to discuss the pig industry. Out of thirty applicants, mostly from New Zealand, Mr P. Williams, of Samoa, and late of Brunner, has been appointed headmaster of Malifa State School at a salary of £6OO per annum. Mr Williams has been teaching in Samoa for about four years. Mr James Hart, the well-known Friesian breeder and judge, of Mbrrinsville, arrived in Christchurch yesterday to judge the Friesian cattle at the Royal Show. He is the first New Zealand judge to judge Friesians at a Royal Show, previous judges having been from Australia. Mr G. M. Hall, who was severely injured about ten days ago, is still an inmate of the Lewisham Hospital, and is making satisfactory progress. An X-ray exam'nation revealed the f-ict that, in addition to the injuries fir.si reported, Mr Hall had six ribs fractured'.
