GAMING BILL.
SIR GEORGE HUNTER THANKED
[THE PRESS Special Service.]
WELLINGTON, November 9
Appreciation of the work he performed in connexion with >the Gaming Amendment Bill is expressed by the New Zealand Sports Protection League in a letter forwarded to Sir George Hunter (Waipawa), the sponsor of the measure.
"The League is greatly indebted to you," runs the communication, "for introducing and taking charge of the Bill, and we desire to express our great appreciation of the able manner in which you handled the very difficult position which arose during the second reading debate. Although the passage of the measure has been delayed by the tactics of the Labour Party, encouraged, no doubt, by the apathy of the members who supported the Bill, we hope that some more favourable opportunity will be found for again bringing the measure before Parliament. We trust that the hostile influences will eventually be overcome and that the desired amendments, so important to the interests of racing, will be passed. The thanks of the whole racing community are due to you for the very valuable services which you have rendered for so many years towards the advancement of the sport."
