OBITUARY.
MR SAMUEL JUDD. Mr Samuel Judd, who passed away on November sth, in his 90th year, at the residence of his daughter, 15 Tonks street, North Beach, was well known to a great number of Canterbury residents, having lived in the province for about 57 vears. He was born in London on December 3rd, 1837, and came to Australia with his parents at the age of 14. He arrived at Hokitika in the year IS7O, and later settled in Christchurch, where he had resided practically ever since. He was married in 1579 at Oxford, Canterbury, and his wife predeceased him by 13 years. He leaves one son —Mr Stanley Judd (Marshland), three daughters —Mrs A. Noonan (North Brighton), Mrs "\V. M. ITorton (Hamilton), and Mrs W. G. Holder (New Plymouth), eight grandchildren, nnd two great-grandchildren. The late Mr Judd was well known and highly esteemed in the Churches of Christ, where he had helped with the evangelistic work ever since be arrived in Canterbury. He was a student of the Bible, and' his knowledge of the Scriptures was a result of years of careful study and research. His hobby was rewriting the Bible as he interpreted it, and he had completed a work which no doubt will be published before long. Up to the time of the illness which resulted in his death, he had not had a serious ailment, and his sight and hearing were good to the last. Had he lived auother four weeks he would have celebrated his 90th birthday. The funeral took place on Monday at the Burwood cemetery, the Kev. C. A. Tobin conducting the service, at the conclusion of which Mr Crawford gave a short address. Many messages of sympathy and floral tributes were received.
