DEMPSEY AND TUNNEY
■ ♦ EFFORT TO STOP FIGHT FAILS. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, September 20. At Chicago, Judge Carpenter, of the Federal Supreme Court, dismissed the llev. Elmer Williams's application for an injunction against the DempseyTunney fight, which Mr Williams hoped to stop as brutal and degrading. In the meantime, as the hour of the bout approaches, it is reliably learned that the receipts are not likely to oe so large as was originally anticipated. Tex Rickard once hoped to take in 3,000,000 dollars, but one of his confidants now states that the promoter will be satisfied if the figure reaches 2,500,000 dollars. It is still certain that the fight will make considerable money for Rickard, Tunney, and Dempsey, but the chances are that each will receive less than he expected. The fact that Dentpsey's and Tunney's shares are already allocated is not likely to prevent readjustment.
